Using with Metamask

Connect Metamask to your Rockside nodes

Why should I connect Metamask with Rockside nodes ?

Metamask behaviour

Metamask, in addition to allowing tidentity management, gives the possibility to choose which ethereum network you want to interact with. The ethereum nodes that are used in the background are stored in the cloud, and are accessed through RPC protocol. Metamask also gives you the possibility to target any Ethereum node you want, regardless of its location, simply by providing its RPC URL.

The goal of this page is to explain how to connect Metamask to other Ethereum nodes than those provided by default in Metamask. More specifically, how to connect to rockside-hosted nodes, like shared public nodes, and your own private or consortium nodes that you have instanciated through the Rockside web interface.

Reasons to connect Metamask to Rockside

There are many reasons that can lead you to connect Metamask to Rockside nodes.

You may wish to rely on another Ethereum provider than the current one which used by default by Metamask, in favor of decentralization, even if nodes are hosted by Rockside. Two providers or more are better than a unique one.

By connecting Metamask to your Rockside node, you can enjoy rockside features and monitor all your transactions that went through your node, on your own transaction explorer.

With Rockside, you can easily create a private Ethereum consortium network. You can target your own private nodes, and feel the exact same user experience as using Mainnet with Metamask. You just have to copy and paste the RPC URL provided by Rockside.

Connect Metamask to your Rockside nodes

Rockside hosts shared public nodes. Current available public networks are Mainnet, Ropsten and Rinkeby. Rockside also allows you to deploy your own private Ethereum network. In both cases, you are able to connect your Metamask to Rockside nodes and interact with them really easily. If you need to deploy a private network but have no idea on how to do it, take a look at the quickstart section.

Step 1: Get the RPC URL of your Rockside node. You can find it under the Blockchain Nodes section. You just have to click on the blue button to copy the URL.

Step 2: Go to Metamask network selection list, and select Custom RPC, which is the last one of the list.

Step 3: Give a name to the node you connect to, and paste your Rockside RPC URL. Then save and add the network.

Step 4: Verify that the current network used by Metamask is the one you just added.

That's all! You are now connected to your Rockside node through Metamask.
